ODIS Service v26 is the current service version offered by 1XOBD for supported VAG workshop diagnostics. This guide explains what to prepare before installation and how to avoid common communication, storage and update problems. What ODIS Service v26 is used for
ODIS Service is intended for guided vehicle diagnosis and supported workshop procedures. Depending on the vehicle, access and repair plan, it can be used to identify control units, read diagnostic information, follow test plans and prepare eligible online operations. Online authorization products are separate from the software installation unless explicitly included.
Computer and storage preparation
- Use a supported Windows computer dedicated to workshop diagnostics where possible.
- Install current system updates before, not during, the diagnostic job.
- Keep sufficient free storage for the application, vehicle data and temporary files.
- Connect the laptop to power and disable sleep during installation or vehicle work.
- Remove conflicting legacy installations only according to the supplied installation procedure.
VCI preparation
Install the correct driver for the selected diagnostic interface and confirm that Windows recognizes it. Test vehicle communication before scheduling an online coding or programming job. A software update cannot repair a faulty USB cable, unstable network interface or incompatible VCI.
Before an online vehicle operation
- Save an initial vehicle scan.
- Maintain stable vehicle voltage with suitable workshop battery support.
- Use reliable internet and avoid changing networks.
- Confirm the VIN, target module and intended operation.
- Close unnecessary software and postpone restarts.
- Do not disconnect the VCI unless instructed by the test plan.
ODIS Service and ODIS Engineering are different
ODIS Service focuses on supported service and guided diagnostic workflows. ODIS Engineering is a separate environment used for engineering-oriented configuration and software work. Choose the application according to the actual workshop job rather than installing both without a defined requirement.

Review the ODIS Service software package and confirm the required installation option before purchase. Online GEKO, SVM, SFD and programming services are selected separately according to the job unless the product description states otherwise.
