Genuine Ford VCM3 uses Ford/Bosch VCI Manager and VCI Manager Launcher for setup, firmware and connection configuration. It must not be installed with VNCI VCM3 software or treated as a VCM2. This guide covers the genuine VCM3 only.

Use the current authorized Ford diagnostic distribution and documentation available through Ford Motorcraft diagnostic support. The VCM3 requires VCI Manager and VCI Manager Launcher. Application access or licensing for FDRS, IDS or FJDS is separate from installing the interface.
How to install Genuine Ford VCM3
- Close Ford diagnostic applications and other VCI managers.
- Install the current Ford VCI Manager and VCI Manager Launcher supplied for Genuine VCM3.
- Restart Windows if the installation requests it.
- Open VCI Manager Launcher and select VCM3.
- Power the interface as directed and connect it directly to the computer using the supplied USB cable.
- Select the VCM3 shown in VCI Manager. Confirm its identity using the serial number on the interface label.
- Complete the initial firmware installation or update without disconnecting USB or power.
- After VCM3 reboots and reconnects, open the supported Ford application and verify the selected VCI.
First VCM3 firmware installation
A new Genuine VCM3 may initially appear in recovery mode and without its serial number in the manager. Ford’s official VCM3 manual instructs the user to select Recover and start the firmware update. Keep the USB cable connected throughout the update and wait for the VCM3 to reboot before using it.
Genuine VCM3 troubleshooting
- VCM3 is not listed: verify the launcher selection, direct USB connection and Windows Device Manager.
- Recover appears instead of Connect: this can be expected for an unconfigured unit; follow the official initial firmware process.
- Update is interrupted: do not repeatedly reconnect at random. Restore stable power and use the official manager’s recovery workflow.
- Ford software cannot see the unit: close other VCI managers, confirm VCM3 in VCI Manager, then reopen the diagnostic application.
- Wireless communication fails: complete setup and prove communication over USB before configuring network connections.
